{"access":"The UKCEH GroDome facility is available for use by other research organisations, usually in collaboration with UKCEH:  initial enquiries via UKCEH Wallingford.\n","capabilities":"The GroDome Facility consists of: six smaller chambers roughly 4.5m x 9m; three larger spaces; a large open area currently used to dry soil.  Each of the six smaller chambers can be adjusted for temperature, humidity and CO2, and benches are removable so the space can be tailored to the particular experiment.  The three larger chambers have separate drainage and temperature control, but not CO2 or humidity.  Lighting can either be LED with a spectrum that encourages plant growth, or broad spectrum white light suitable for insect survival.","description":"The purpose of the UKCEH GroDome Facility is to enable controlled experimental studies of a wide range of organisms and pathogens.  The space available in the GroDome allows larger experiments than could be contained in controlled environment rooms, and the GroDome environment is better suited to insect survival.  Along with studies looking at the effect of environmental changes on plant growth and development, the GroDome is used to study the relationships between plants, disease (eg. viruses and fungi) and the vectors of the disease.","fundingSources":"The UKCEH GroDome facility is funded by NERC National Capability and research project grants.","geometry":{"geometryString":"{\"type\":\"Feature\",\"properties\":{},\"geometry\":{\"type\":\"Point\",\"coordinates\":[-1.11063,51.60353]}}","wkt":"POINT(-1.11063 51.60353)"},"id":"037818f4-b8a4-4b13-bad2-a159811a4d16","infrastructureCategory":{"value":"controlledPlatforms","description":"Controlled environment platforms","infrastructureClass":"Environmental experiment platforms","uri":"http://vocabs.ceh.ac.uk/ri/controlledPlatforms"},"infrastructureChallenge":[{"value":"Sustainable ecosystems: biodiversity net gain"}],"infrastructureScale":"Area, city, farm, habitat","lifecycle":"The GroDome Facility was constructed in 2010.","locationText":"The GroDome is located at UKCEH Wallingford","metadataDate":"2025-04-09T09:24:34","owners":[{"displayName":"Denise Pallett & Lucy Akinmosin","organisationName":"UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/00pggkr55","role":"owner","address":{"city":"Wallingford"},"fullName":"Denise Pallett & Lucy Akinmosin"}],"partners":"The GroDome facility facility is operated by UKCEH.","resourceIdentifiers":[{"code":"https://catalogue-staging.ceh.ac.uk/id/06d7ceb8-9232-4bd7-a2b8-efb043fca51a"},{"code":"https://catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/id/037818f4-b8a4-4b13-bad2-a159811a4d16"}],"scienceArea":"Soils and Land Use","title":"UKCEH GroDome facility (Wallingford)","type":"infrastructureRecord","uniqueness":"The UKCEH GroDome Facility is not particularly unique: similar controlled environment research facilities are available elsewhere.","uri":"https://catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/id/037818f4-b8a4-4b13-bad2-a159811a4d16","users":["The UKCEH GroDome facility is used by UKCEH researchers plus UK and international project partners including: PhD students; visiting exchange students; visiting academics."]}
