Controlled environment platforms
Capabilities
The GroDome Facility consists of: six smaller chambers roughly 4.5m x 9m; three larger spaces; a large open area currently used to dry soil. Each of the six smaller chambers can be adjusted for temperature, humidity and CO2, and benches are removable so the space can be tailored to the particular experiment. The three larger chambers have separate drainage and temperature control, but not CO2 or humidity. Lighting can either be LED with a spectrum that encourages plant growth, or broad spectrum white light suitable for insect survival.
Lifecycle
The GroDome Facility was constructed in 2010.
Uniqueness
The UKCEH GroDome Facility is not particularly unique: similar controlled environment research facilities are available elsewhere.
