Chobham Common is one of the finest examples of a lowland heath in the world and contains a wide range of habitats and rare biodiversity. Heathland is an ancient and characteristic British landscape that was in fact created by prehistoric farmers, and managed down the generations providing a living link to our stone-age past. Soils are highly variable in thickness and texture from sand to coarse gravel.
