In addition, deposition and concentration data for nitrogen and sulphur pollutants are provided at each site to give an estimate of critical load/level exceedance.\n\nThe data provided is based on pollutant deposition gridded maps for nitrogen and acid deposition and concentration maps of ammonia, nitrogen oxides and sulphur, which are overlayed to a GIS shape file of site boundaries in the UK (e.g. SAC, SPA, SSSI). These gridded maps were then clipped to provide the pollutant values for each grid square including the area of the clipped grid. The resulting data was then queried to generate site statistics in the form of a minimum, maximum and area weighted average values for each of the pollutants.\n\nFor nitrogen and acid deposition values and ammonia concentrations, 3 year average pollutant maps were used at a resolution of 5 x 5 km from the CBED model for the years 2013-2015. For nitrogen dioxide and sulphur dioxide concentrations the 1 x 1 km PCM model was used based on the 3 year average (2013-2015). Deposition values are generated for specific habitat types (forest and semi-natural) to be used in critical load exceedance calculations.\n\nThe full methodology is available in the contextual metadata linked to this record.\n\nThe work of APIS is jointly funded between the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and the UK pollution and conservation agencies including Natural Resources Wales (NRW), the Environment Agency, Northern Ireland Environment Agency, Natural England, the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), Scotland and Northern Ireland Forum for Environmental Research (SNIFFER), the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), and Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH).\n","metadataDate":"2026-05-11T17:46:07","notGEMINI":false,"onlineResources":[{"url":"https://catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/datastore/eidchub/487b9d48-ec67-4b4e-a758-093a52d2d73b/","name":"Download the data","description":"Download a copy of this data","function":"fileAccess","type":"OTHER"},{"url":"https://data-package.ceh.ac.uk/sd/487b9d48-ec67-4b4e-a758-093a52d2d73b.zip","name":"Supporting information","description":"Supporting information available to assist in re-use of this dataset","function":"information","type":"OTHER"}],"pointsOfContact":[{"honorificPrefix":"Dr","familyName":"Bealey","givenName":"Bill","organisationName":"UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/00pggkr55","role":"pointOfContact","email":"enquiries@ceh.ac.uk","address":{"deliveryPoint":"Bush Estate","city":"Penicuik","administrativeArea":"Midlothian","postalCode":"EH26 0QB","country":"United Kingdom"},"fullName":"Bealey, B.","pointOfContact":"UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology"}],"publicationDate":"2017-06-08T00:00:00.000Z","publishers":[{"organisationName":"NERC Environmental Information Data Centre","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/04xw4m193","role":"publisher","email":"info@eidc.ac.uk"}],"relationships":[{"relation":"http://purl.org/dc/terms/isPartOf","target":"291de6a9-5f54-4901-8c57-c1b62aa7a112"}],"resourceIdentifiers":[{"code":"https://catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/id/487b9d48-ec67-4b4e-a758-093a52d2d73b"},{"code":"10.5285/487b9d48-ec67-4b4e-a758-093a52d2d73b","codeSpace":"doi"}],"resourceType":{"value":"dataset"},"responsibleParties":[{"familyName":"Bealey","givenName":"W.J.","organisationName":"Centre for Ecology & Hydrology","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/00pggkr55","role":"author","email":"enquiries@ceh.ac.uk","nameIdentifier":"https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3708-5864","fullName":"Bealey, W.J."},{"familyName":"Roberts","givenName":"E.M.","organisationName":"Centre for Ecology & Hydrology","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/00pggkr55","role":"author","email":"enquiries@ceh.ac.uk","fullName":"Roberts, E.M."},{"familyName":"Smith","givenName":"R.I.","organisationName":"Centre for Ecology & Hydrology","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/00pggkr55","role":"author","email":"enquiries@ceh.ac.uk","fullName":"Smith, R.I."},{"familyName":"Stedman","givenName":"J.R.","organisationName":"Ricardo Energy & Environment ","role":"author","email":"John.Stedman@ricardo.com","address":{"deliveryPoint":"Gemini Building, Fermi Avenue","city":"Harwell ","administrativeArea":"Oxfordshire ","postalCode":"OX11 0QR ","country":"United Kingdom"},"fullName":"Stedman, J.R."},{"organisationName":"NERC Environmental Information Data Centre","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/04xw4m193","role":"publisher","email":"info@eidc.ac.uk"},{"organisationName":"NERC EDS Environmental Information Data Centre","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/04xw4m193","role":"custodian","email":"info@eidc.ac.uk"},{"honorificPrefix":"Dr","familyName":"Bealey","givenName":"Bill","organisationName":"UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology","organisationIdentifier":"https://ror.org/00pggkr55","role":"pointOfContact","email":"enquiries@ceh.ac.uk","address":{"deliveryPoint":"Bush Estate","city":"Penicuik","administrativeArea":"Midlothian","postalCode":"EH26 0QB","country":"United Kingdom"},"fullName":"Bealey, B.","pointOfContact":"UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology"}],"spatialReferenceSystems":[{"code":"http://www.opengis.net/def/crs/EPSG/0/27700","title":"OSGB 1936 / British National Grid"}],"spatialRepresentationTypes":["textTable"],"spatialResolutions":[{"distance":"5000","uom":"m"}],"supplemental":[{"name":"Review of Transboundary Air Pollution (RoTAP)","description":"RoTAP. 2012.
