Insect flower visitors were collected (netting/pooter/direct capture with vial) in situ and killed with ethyl acetate prior to transport to the laboratory at CEH. Once there specimens were identified under microscope and assigned to a binomial species (wherever possible) by CEH staff following standard keys or where binomial species identification proved impractical (taxonomically difficult groups or damaged specimens) they were assigned to a recognisable taxonomic unit (RTU). The identity and count of each insect specimen were entered directly into an Excel spreadsheet, data were checked for typographic errors by the lead investigator, and then data were aggregated to insect species by field site levels using 'pivot table' function in Excel to create a flat table. The dataset consists of eight DSMs; one for each of the two river sections on each of the four dates. \n\nThe DSM was constructed from photogrammetric quality aerial plane images with a 0.06m ground resolution that were captured at a height of c. 1500 m from a fixed-wing aeroplane with an UltraCamXp sensor. The DSM was constructed from the images using a three stage process:\n\n(1) An orthomosaic was generated from the aerial photography (using up to 160 images) by automated image matching using the SfM program Pix4D (https://pix4d.com/) with the 'large frame' supplementary software package. Bundle adjustment was undertaken using Pix4D’s key point matching system optimised for aerial nadir imagery. Camera properties were specified using calibration certificates and were not allowed to vary during the calculation. A point cloud was then derived following the bundle adjustment.\n\n(2) The point cloud was checked for residual tilt using a network of Ground Control Points with coordinates that were determined by RTK differential GPS survey. The corrected point cloud density was reduced to a resolution of 0.5 m and the resulting dataset was filtered in MATLAB using a Chauvenet-type criterion. This procedure was implemented to derive the DSM in dry (non-submerged) areas of the river.\n\n(3) In wet (submerged) areas, bed elevations were derived using a depth-brightness model as follows. First, water surface elevations at the interface between wet and dry areas of the river bed were extracted from the corrected point cloud and interpolated to generate a water surface elevation field for the submerged bed areas. Second, water depth measurements made at the time of image acquisition were located on the orthomosaic of the river, and pixel brightness values were extracted at these locations. A log-linear regression between water depth and pixel brightness was then derived, and this relationship was used to model water depth for all sub-merged bed areas. Bed elevations in these areas were determined by subtracting the predicted depth from the water surface elevation. The final DSM was derived by combining elevation values for the dry and wet bed areas.\n","locations":["POLYGON((-107 51.5, -107 51.6, -107.1 51.6, -107.1 51.5, -107 51.5))"],"metadataDate":"2026-07-24T19:09:34.000Z","orcid":["0000-0002-3707-1182"],"organisation":["University of Brighton","University of Exeter","University of Hull","University of Birmingham","NERC Environmental Information Data Centre","NERC EDS Environmental Information Data Centre"],"publicationDate":"2019-10-29T00:00:00.000Z","recordType":"Dataset","resourceIdentifier":["https://catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/id/13695138-227f-4d85-9049-0a9cba9e1867","10.5285/13695138-227f-4d85-9049-0a9cba9e1867","doi:10.5285/13695138-227f-4d85-9049-0a9cba9e1867"],"resourceType":"Dataset","ror":["https://ror.org/04kp2b655","https://ror.org/03yghzc09","https://ror.org/04nkhwh30","https://ror.org/03angcq70","https://ror.org/04xw4m193"],"shortenedDescription":"Data were collected in 2015, 2016 and 2017 to provide Digital Surface Models (DSM) for two sections of the South Saskatchewan River, Canada. Full descriptions of the analytical methods used for each determinand is included. The Plynlimon research catchments lie within the headwaters of the River Severn and the River Wye in the uplands of mid-Wales. Intensive and long-term monitoring within the catchments underpins a wealth of hydrological and hydro-chemical research; other linked datasets include river flow, meteorology and a variety of detailed spatial datasets representing the topography, soils and rivers of the catchments. The stream hydrochemistry dataset is a combination of chemical determinands and in-situ physical properties. Samples are taken on an approximately weekly basis and analysed in laboratories for approximately 50 chemical determinands. The laboratory analysis has been undertaken at different locations using different equipment during the years of monitoring represented within the dataset. Details of the analytical methods used for each determinand are included within the dataset. The information provided is presented as raw data which have not been modified to include \"less than\" values when the numbers are less than the lowest quotable value. This is done so as to allow the data to be used for research purposes including detailed statistical analysis where inclusion of less than values would be problematic. The data are thus \"uncensored\" for research purposes and include in places values that are negative due to analytical uncertainties and the extremely low concentrations of some of the determinands. The data are provided in good faith with the expectation that they will be used in a positive and constructive manner. It is up to the user to resolve which way to use and interpret the data and information on full methodologies and less than values is provided within the metadata files. We whole heartedly encourage the use of these data for research and educational purposes bearing in mind that it is uncensored data and that over the years research directions have evolved to reflect changing project and funding priorities while analytical methodologies have changed. The data provide a legacy from many years' research involving scientists, analysts and field workers who in many cases have now retired. While we have done our best to provide all the information possible, in many cases it will be not be possible to respond to detailed enquiries about the earlier parts of the record.","locations":["POLYGON((-3.821 52.415, -3.821 52.514, -3.633 52.514, -3.633 52.415, -3.821 52.415))"],"metadataDate":"2026-09-15T08:44:19.000Z","organisation":["Centre for Ecology & Hydrology","ETH Zurich","UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology","NERC Environmental Information Data Centre","NERC EDS Environmental Information Data Centre"],"publicationDate":"2013-02-08T00:00:00.000Z","recordType":"Dataset","resourceIdentifier":["1358440467453","CEH:EIDC::1358440467453","https://catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/id/44095e17-43b0-45d4-a781-aab4f72da025","10.5285/44095e17-43b0-45d4-a781-aab4f72da025","doi:10.5285/44095e17-43b0-45d4-a781-aab4f72da025"],"resourceType":"Dataset","rightsHolder":["UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology"],"ror":["https://ror.org/00pggkr55","https://ror.org/04xw4m193"],"shortenedDescription":"This dataset includes rainfall, cloud, river and stream hydro-chemistry of the Plynlimon research catchments.
