dcterms:title "Data from the Climoor climate change experimental fieldsite in Clocaenog forest, UK" ;
dcterms:identifier "https://catalogue.ceh.ac.uk/id/1bc394f3-735c-48a2-8aa6-dfc689d14cd5" ;
dcterms:description "Datasets within this series include site meteorological data, plot level micro-meteorological data, rainfall chemistry and volume, soil respiration, plant survey data (includes biomass and species diversity/abundance), spring emergence data for dominant plant species, annual vegetative growth and flowering, photosynthesis, vegetation chemistry of both green and senesced material, root biomass, litterfall, soil water chemistry, plant herbivory and fungal infection. The Climoor field site is a climate change experiment which investigates the possible impact of increase temperatures and repeated summer drought on an Atlantic upland moorland. The experiment uses automatic roof technology to warm experimental plots by 0.5 - 1 degC and reproduces drought conditions in other experimental plots(July to September annually). We have measured a range of key community characteristics and processes (ranging from plant diversity to rates of soil respiration) since the experiment began in 1998. In 2014, the Climoor experiment was the second longest running climate change experiment in the UK and data from the experiment has been used in several modelling exercises. The site was originally established under a EU consortium project - called CLIMOOR - where replica manipulation experiments were built in six European countries. As well as our site in North-East Wales (United Kingdom), there are identical sites in Denmark, the Netherlands, Sardinia (Italy) and Hungary. There was also a site in Catalonia (Spain). Detailed descriptions of the site (including both vegetation and soil) and treatments are included in the supporting information as well as the methods used, and it is vital that this is considered when re-using this data." ;

Plot level meteorological data, summarised to daily (1998 to current day) and hourly (2008 to current day). Air/soil temperature sensors and TDR soil moisture sensors from Campbell Scientific. Soil respiration, bi-weekly (1998 to current day) portable infra-red gas analyser (PP Systems, EGM and soil respiration chamber, up to 2009, 2009 onwards LICOR 8100) Plant Biomass, annual sampling between 1998-2003 and again in 2007-2012, pin-pointing methodology. Photosynthesis, infrequently in 2001-2003, leaf level measurement using infra-red gas analyser (CIRAS-2) and leaf chamber (both from PP Systems). Litterfall, monthly in two periods 1998-2001 and again in 2008-2011, simple litterfall collectors (small plant pots) collecting inside the experimental plots. Water table depth measured by tape measure via water permeable pipes installed down to the bedrock within the soil profile (maximum depth 39cm)"
