Bathymetry data are only available for the Hồng-Luộc junction.\n\nRiverbed bathymetry data are available for the Hồng-Luộc junction at 1 m² resolution. To assess the validity of our bathymetry surveys, we overlaid this data with the ADCP transects collected at four locations during the same period at the Hồng-Luộc junction. Comparisons between ADCP transects and bathymetry data reveal broadly similar transect profiles, but a consistent 2 m offset in elevation after water level and GPS corrections. This discrepancy would have implications for the comparison of our bathymetry data with other ADCP transect data. No alterations have been made to our bathymetry survey elevations for this comparison.\n\nADCP data are available for the relative upstream and downstream portions of the Son Tay study reach, and across the main channel (Red River), secondary channel (Red River) and tributary channel (Luoc River) at the Hong-Luoc junction across multiple dates. Water level data are also available at Son Tay, Trieu Duong (on the Luoc river, a tributary of the Hong-Luoc junction) and Tien Duc (the downstream-most portion of the Hong-Luoc junction) during the study period. These data were provided by the Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Organisation.\n\nRiverbed grainsize data are available at Son Tay - including the surface of an exposed island sand bar (its top and tail) and the relative upstream (collected in the centre of the channel cross-section) and downstream (collected in both the centre, left-bank and right-bank of the channel cross-section) - and the Hong-Luoc junction at three locations across the reach. Each bedload sample was sub-sampled into two - each sample contains five repeated measurements and an average for grainsize. Geoid corrections were applied using AUSPOS. Bathymetry data were processed at a spatial resolution of 1 m2 in Beamworx, including calibration, data cleaning (manual removal of obvious outliers) and angular corrections determined by patch testing to generate bathymetric raster maps.\n\nFor grainsize data, riverbed samples were retrieved using an Eckmann bed grab sampler in February 2023. Bar samples at Son Tay were retrieved using aluminium trays directly. Samples were stored in aluminium foil trays and refrigerated upon collection. Samples stored in aluminium trays were packaged with sealed plastic bags for transport from field sites to Newcastle University laboratories and subsequently analysed in June 2025. Samples were sub-sampled wet into clean digestion tubes - each original sample was subsampled twice for replicability assessment. Subsamples were acid digested using hydrogen peroxide overnight (cold). Samples were then heated in a waterbath to 85 degrees C and vortexed manually. After digestion was complete, samples were left to cool and settle overnight. The supernatant was poured off, samples were topped up with deionised water and span in the centrifuge at 4000 rpm for 5 minutes. Supernatant was poured off. Sodium hexametaphosphate (5%) up to 5 ml graduation was added - samples were vortexed in the centrifuge and left for 3 hours in a waterbath at 85 degrees C. No grains above 2 mm were present in samples. Before grainsize analysis on the Mastersizer - samples were vortexed - using a Pasteur pipette a vertical column of mobilised sediment was obtained. Subsample was added drop by drop to the dispersant until an optimal obscuration was achieved.\n\nWater quality data were retrieved using an in-situ sonde attached to a weighted rope to mitigate vertical drag. The sensor has built-in depth sensor - however the rope has 1 m interval markings which allowed for the verification of depth measurements. At each 1 m interval, the sensor was left to stabilise for 30 seconds. \n\nADCP data were acquired using RioGrande 600 kHz boat-mounted sensors (separate sensors for each of the two study locations) for multiple channel cross-sections at Son Tay and the Hong-Luoc junction. Magnetic declination offsets have not been added.
