The sampling was conducted on varying spatial and temporal scales. This included a variety of island types (e.g., inhabited, uninhabited, agricultural, tourism islands, pristine patch reefs), and within individual islands. Sampling was conducted across a spectrum of uses-types of different sites (e.g., densely populated areas, versus heavy agricultural areas, vs rural areas etc) between different seasons (wet and dry seasons) on monthly, quarterly, bi-annual and annual time-windows. Nutrient measurements were performed spectrophotometrically at either SAMS (Scottish Association for Marine Science in Oban, UK; or at the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management in Chennai, India), with samples stored and transported frozen.  \n\nElemental and isotopic compositions of seagrass and macroalgal samples were generated through stable isotope ratio mass spectrometer, performed at the University of Edinburgh, UK, with samples stored and transported frozen prior to analysis. \n\nManual checks have been performed on the data to look for any error in data entry or values reported outside the expected range. This data is heterogenous in nature.
