Studies about biofouling and ballast water were excluded because these were about preventing the release of new invasive alien species (IAS) rather than controlling established populations. Laboratory-only experiments were also excluded but aquarium, greenhouse, and mesocosmos experiments were retained as these experimental designs can be used to assess IAS impacts and the relationship between IAS control and the outcomes of this intervention. Overall, 373 publications were assessed as relevant."
