In each plot, the five ingrowth cores were bulked into a composite sample per plot, divided into depths of 0-10 cm and 10-30 cm, and roots were removed from the soil core by hand in the field over a period of 60 minutes, which was split into 15 minutes time interval. Subsequently, roots were cleaned of residual and detritus, dried at 60 °C until constant mass and weighed. Fine roots considered here are defined as <2 mm in diameter, attested by a digital caliper. The root biomass obtained from the first installation is considered to be the stock of roots.\n\n In 2017, the data were collected in August and November.
