The breach was assumed to start from a small channel formed at the dam crest (initial breach) and grows into a trapezoidal shape with a side-slope of 1:1 during the time of failure. The model further assumes an initial breach depth and a final breach depth, which can be quantified and prescribed according to current dam conditions.
