The data here represents a reduced subset of the full DBIF (13,277 interactions), only including interactions resolved to the species level (insect species x associated with host plant species y), records that have been expertly verified as reliable and included in previous large-scale analyses (Ward 1988; Ward & Spalding 1993; Ward et al. 1995; Ward et al. 2003), and records that are certain to have occurred in Great Britain. Any records originating from captive breeding studies are excluded. Finally, only plants with associated phylogenetic data and native status are included. The aggregate classes group some of the more specialised target classes into more general classes. For example, the five coastal classes in the target class are grouped into a single aggregate class.\n\nThe 1km percentage product provides the percentage cover for each of the 21 land cover classes for 1km x 1km pixels. This product contains one band per habitat class, producing 21 and 10 band images for the target and aggregate class products respectively. The 1km dominant coverage product is based on the 1km percentage product, and reports the land cover class with the highest percentage cover for each 1km pixel. A Random Forest classifier used these to classify four composite images representing per season median surface reflectance. Seasonal images were integrated with context layers (e.g., height, aspect, slope, coastal proximity, urban proximity and so forth) to reduce confusion among classes with similar spectra.  \n\nLand cover was validated by organising the 10 m pixel classification into a land parcel framework (the LCM2019 classified land parcels product). The properties included are: pH, soil organic matter (loss on ignition, LOI), derived carbon concentration and carbon stock (SOC), soil group, soil bulk density of fine earth, soil moisture of wet soil, fine earth volumetric water content (dry), nitrogen concentration and stock, and Olsen-phosphorus concentration. \n\nThe UKCEH Countryside Survey is a unique study or 'audit' of the natural resources of the UK's countryside. The sample sites are chosen from a stratified random sample, based on a 15 by 15 km grid of GB. Surveys have been carried out in 1978, 1984, 1990, 1998 and 2007 by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) and predecessors, with repeated visits to most of the squares. The countryside is sampled and surveyed using rigorous scientific methods, allowing us to compare new results with those from previous surveys. In this way, we can detect the gradual and subtle changes that occur in the UK's countryside over time. The 21 target classes are based on the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) Broad Habitats, which encompass the entire range of UK habitats. \n\nLCM1990 is a land cover map of the UK which was produced at the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology by classifying satellite images (mainly from 1989 and 1990) into 21 Broad Habitat-based classes. The generalisation (or simplification) process was used to remove very small objects, which provided unnecessary detail. Less common properties were also measured; extractable soil nitrogen, dissolved organic carbon, soil aggregate sizes, and soil texture. All other datasets were derived from these. They give land cover information in 21 classes based on UK Biodiversity Action Plan broad habitats. They result from automatic Random Forest classifications of partially overlapping, rectangular classification scenes and are given as 8-bit, 2-band integer 20m pixel rasters. Band-1 is the most likely land cover class, band-2 is the classification probability associated with this class, rescaled over the interval 0 to 100. Classification scenes comprised per-season Sentinel-2 median top of atmosphere reflectance values resampled to 20m pixel resolution, derived using the Google Earth Engine, combined with regional context layers (for example: terrain, coastal proximity). Overlapping classification results were visually ranked to determine precedence. The best classifications were compiled to form seamless national products for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Classification used bespoke software integrated with a PostGis spatial database. The 20m rasters were exported from PostGIS using open source gdal tools to give the final product in GeoTiff format.
