This dataset consists of soils dated using lead-210 (210Pb) in profiles from permafrost in subarctic Canada. Soil cores were sampled during early summer in 2013 and 2014 from peatland plateaus, thawing peatland plateaus, burnt and unburnt black spruce forests in Yukon and Northwest Territories. The upper part of the soil profile was dated using 210Pb to quantify recent carbon accumulation rates.

Provenance & quality
Lead-210 (210Pb) dating was used to date the upper part of the soil profile which was cut at intervals of 1 cm resolution. Samples were freeze dried and ground and the 210Pb activity was determined by alpha spectrometry following chemical extraction. Constant rate of supply models were used to assign ages in years to the soil. This data can be used to quantify recent carbon accumulation rates (refer to dataset of bulk density, carbon and nitrogen content).
