These data are input files for CAESAR-Lisflood (CL), a numerical hydrodynamic-landscape evolution model. These files were created to support coupled hydrodynamic-landscape evolution modelling to evaluate the geomorphological response of river channels affected by the 7th February 2021 ice-rock avalanche and debris flow in Chamoli District, Uttarakhand, India. They include 10 m digital elevation models (DEMs) of bed rock and land surface topography in a gridded (raster) format. They also include reanalysis-derived river discharge data generated by the GEOGloWS project at the following locations: Rontigad, Rishiganga, Dhauliganga, and Alaknanda. The configuration settings and parameters for CL modelling are also included.

Provenance & quality

These CAESAR-Lisflood input files were generated over the course of project NE/W002930/1. The approximate date range of their creation ranges from 1st June 2021 to 31st May 2022. This window encompasses the creation of the data and any refinements that were made to them in the course of model calibration. The data provided here are for the final, calibrated model. We calibrated the model by comparing modelled net volumetric change at the full domain scale (not sub-model) with that retrieved from digital model differencing for the period 10 February 2021 to 25 December 2021, achieving an 86.3% fit to measured data. The .xml file for each model was created upon saving the various user-specific settings and parameters in the graphical user interface of the model. The ‘DEM’ files were created in QGIS version 3.18 and are derived from the digital elevation models available in the related data collection. The .dat ‘output’ files were created in sequence by running the ‘domain 1’ model (creates the ‘domain1_hydro_output.dat’, which then forms an input dataset for the ‘domain 2’ model), and so on.
