This dataset compiles weather station data from the Colombian Andes collected at three experimental sites with contrasting mean annual temperatures (13.7, 22.1, and 25.5 degrees Celsius).

Recorded variables include direct and diffuse radiation, precipitation, air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, and atmospheric visibility. Data were recorded at a 10-minute resolution using Campbell Scientific CR1000X dataloggers. A second data logger (HOBO U23-001 Pro v2) recorded air temperature, relative humidity, and dew point at the same temporal resolution. The Dataset spans from October 2019 to April 2025.

Weather stations were installed within common garden plantations established between December 2018 and January 2019 along an elevational gradient in the Colombian Andes to investigate dominant Andean tree species responses to changes in temperature.

The supporting document of each dataset describes measured variables, units, sampling locations, quality control procedures, detailed sampling protocols, data processing steps, and dataset-specific methodological information.

Provenance & quality

To characterize environmental conditions across the experimental common gardens, an automated weather station was installed at each of the three study sites in October 2019. Each station was equipped with sensors measuring air temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, direct and diffuse solar radiation, wind speed and direction, and atmospheric visibility. All sensors were connected to a Campbell Scientific CR1000X datalogger and programmed to record measurements at 10-minute intervals. HOBO U23 Pro v2 data loggers were installed to independently record air temperature, relative humidity, and dew point.

The stations were powered by a 12 V battery charged through a solar panel system, and data were routinely downloaded.

Quality control procedures included regular inspection of sensors, power supply systems, and data logging equipment, as well as periodic data downloads and validation checks to ensure data continuity and reliability. The resulting measurements are provided in two complementary datasets: (1) climate variables recorded by the Campbell Scientific weather stations and (2) air temperature, relative humidity, and dew point recorded by the HOBO data loggers.
