This dataset contains hourly automatic weather station (AWS) and 15 minute river flow gauging station data from sites in the Plynlimon (Pumlumon) area of upland mid-Wales, representing the headwaters of the Rivers Severn (Hafren) and Wye (Gwy). A range of instrumentation across 6 AWS sites and 10 gauging stations delivered meteorological and river flow data from 1968 to 2010 to explore changing hydrometeorology as part of the long-term Plynlimon catchment monitoring study.
The dataset includes: air temperature, temperature depression, Vapour Pressure Deficit (VPD), precipitation, solar radiation, net radiation, wind speed, wind direction, and river flow.

Provenance & quality

Raw measurements are provided along with derived, quality controlled (QC'd), aggregated, and gap-filled data.
The supporting document provides collated and QC'd information on this dataset. As the status and detail of the documentation available varies over time, and between sites, this should be viewed as a data rescue exercise, extracting essential information to enable understanding of the record. Further documentation may be available in electronic and paper form from UKCEH Wallingford, Oxfordshire, UK.
This work was supported by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC-UKRI) as part of the Floods and Droughts Research Infrastructure (FDRI) which is aiming to deliver improved access to monitoring data to support research into hydrological processes.
