This dataset contains information about meteorological conditions, soil parameters and water table depth at Whim Bog, an ombrotrophic heather-dominated bog near Edinburgh, Scotland. Meteorological measurements were recorded at a height of 2 m above the bog on a meteorological mast which is a part of a peatland nitrogen pollution experiment established in 2002. The measurements are recorded using a wide range of automatic sensors recording continuous meteorological data reported in this dataset at 15-minute intervals. This dataset relates to measurements taken in 2024 and 2025. This dataset provides continuation of meteorological measurements in southern Scotland over the past two decades and can help identify changing climatic trends and anomalies.

The meteorological data is collected from a 2 m mast on an ombrotrophic bog. A peatland nitrogen pollution experiment was established in 2002 at Whim Bog (55.76566o, -3.27155o, altitude: 316 m) near Edinburgh and meteorological measurements started in 2003. Air temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, leaf wetness, wind speed, wind direction, net radiation, total solar radiation and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) were measured over the bog. Soil volumetric water content is measured at one depth and temperature were measured at two depths in addition to water table depth. The instruments measure data every 20 seconds and the average is calculated over 15-minute intervals. All data is given in GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) from 1st January 2024 to 31st December 2025.
The data has been checked visually and any obvious errors introduced by instrument malfunctioning, datalogger programming issues and power cuts have been removed. Some gaps were also introduced during the time taken to replace faulty sensors. The dataset contains 736,321 measurements of 13 parameters.
