This dataset contains time series observations of land surface-atmosphere exchanges of net ecosystem carbon dioxide exchange (NEE), sensible heat (H) and latent heat (LE), and momentum (τ) measured at the Wicken Sedge Fen, a conservation managed lowland fen (site code: EF-LN) in the Cambridgeshire Fens, UK. Turbulent flux densities (fluxes) were monitored using the micrometeorological eddy covariance (EC) technique between 2009-03-20 to 2009-12-31, and 2010-04-09 to 2011-01-16. The dataset includes ancillary weather and soil physics observations, as well as variables that characterise atmospheric turbulence.

Provenance & quality

Eddy covariance (EC) flux observations were made above the grassland canopy at a measurement height of 3.95 m using an open-path eddy covariance system. Ancillary meteorological and soil physics observations were co-located with the eddy covariance station.

Turbulent flux densities were calculated from the raw EC data using the EddyPRO® Flux Calculation Software Version 7.0.6. Quality control of EC data involved removal of statistical outliers and tests based on the theoretical requirements for successful application of the EC technique. Data gaps in EC data were filled using the Marginal Distribution Sampling approach. Where possible, missing meteorological data were filled using observations collected by an automated weather station located on the Wicken Fen site.

Time series data are supplied as a single .csv file that contains tabular data according to the columns described in Table 1 in the accompanying documentation.
