The data resource consists of tree census data and shapefiles about plots established on invaded sub-tropical mountain secondary forests (Yungas) in the Horco Molle experimental reserve and Parque Sierra de San Javier (Horco Molle), Tucumán, Argentina. An experiment was conducted to investigate management control of the invasion of nonnative species Ligustrum to restore native tree diversity from June 2020 to November 2023.

The data includes the census of 6 plots (240 metres by 140 metres, 3.36 hectares for each plot, the location specified in the shapefile), with arbitrary coordinates (x for the longest side and y for the shortest) to assess the location of each tree. For each tree stem, a tagged ID was assigned and the species recorded, the presence of secondary stems, its perimeter at breast height, the number of small stems, the number of death stems, stem shape and stem fusion.

The work was carried out as part of NERC grant NE/S011641/1 Optimising the long-term management of invasive species affecting biodiversity and the rural economy using adaptive management

         Provenance & quality
The tree census data were part of a field experiment of management of secondary forests affected by Ligustrum lucidum invasion by establishing 6 permanent plots of 240 metres by 140 metres each (3.36 hectares, see included shapefile). Plots were established in pairs (3 pairs in total), where one element of the pair was assigned as the null scenario (no actions applied), and the other was the control (L.lucidum control and native tree planting). Before management actions, a census was conducted, including all the trees with perimeters equal to or more than 15.7 cm Perimeter at Breast Height (PBH) tall in the inner area (1.2 hectares) and all the trees equal to or greater than 31.4 cm PBH for the rest of the plot.
Trees were identified at the species level for most cases, using field guides and supported by local experienced taxonomists.
The plots were mapped using a GPS device (Garmin Etrex Vista HCX) and posterior visual correction using the Qgis platform and Google Hybrid satellite image of the area. Data were exported a Shapefiles for deposit into the Environmental Data Information Centre (EIDC) Data were recorded onto field sheets, transferred into spreadsheets and exported as comma separated value (CSV) files for deposit into the EIDC.
