The dataset contains 5-day of water velocities at Durleigh Reservoir in Somerset, England. A Nortek Vector acoustic doppler velocimeter (ADV) was used to collect the dataset. The ADV was deployed between 20 August 2018 (15:00) and 24 August 2018 (09:15), located approximately 30 m north of the surface mixers in Durleigh reservoir. The surface mixers were operating when the ADV was deployed and were switched off between 07:17 on 22 August and 16:42 on 23 August 2018.

Provenance & quality

The ADV was mounted in a steel frame so that the sensor was positioned 10 cm above the sediments when deployed. Prior to deployment the ADV compass was calibrated and the instrument was set up to measure in the ENU directions. Velocities were measured using burst mode, measuring for 16 seconds every 10 minutes at a frequency of 64 Hz for 1024 samples.

The data available to download are a .dat and .sen files, converted to .csv files, for each day of sampling (e.g. day 1 = 20 August 2018). The .dat files, indicated by the suffux _dat in the file name, include velocities (E/N/U) in m s-1, amplitude (1-3) in counts, signal to noise ratio (1-3) in dB, correlation (1-3) in % and pressure (dbar). The .sen files, indicated by the suffux _sen in the file name, include the time, heading (degrees), pitch (degrees), roll (degrees), sound speed (m s-1), and temperature (°C).
