GPS data of tracks of a number of hedgehogs that were found around the University of Exeter Penryn campus, Penryn, Cornwall, UK. The tracks were recorded between May and November 2024. Hedgehog surveys were performed to find candidate hedgehogs. If the hedgehogs met strict guidelines, they were fitted with a GPS tracker then released. Ad libitum surveys were then performed to connect to the trackers and recover the data and, where possible, retrieve the trackers. By analysing the resulting tracks, in relation at artificial light at night (ALAN) present in the environment, we can gauge the impact of ALAN on hedgehog behaviour and habitat use. Maisy Inston and Charlie Rayner performed the hedgehog surveys and data retrieval, with assistance from other members of the project team.

Provenance & quality
The tracks in this dataset were recorded by an i-gotU GPS tracker attached to the GPS hedgehog. The data were then retrieved by a member of the project team, as and when they were able to connect to the tracker and download the GPS data. Strict guidelines were imposed on the hedgehogs we fitted trackers to. This was primarily for the wellbeing of the hedgehogs, but also a quality assurance measure.
