This dataset comprises multispectral orthoimagery acquired from six drone flights over sclerophyllous and deciduos forest in La Campana National Park, located in the Mediterranean bioregion of central Chile, conducted in January 2024. Raw images were processed in Agisoft Metashape following a standard structure-from-motion workflow: images were first aligned to estimate camera positions and generate a sparse point cloud, followed by the construction of a dense point cloud for detailed surface reconstruction, and finally generating the five-band orthomosaics (Blue, Green, Red, Red Edge, Near-Infrared) at high spatial resolution. These data were collected to quantify drought-induced canopy defoliation and forest structural degradation following extreme Hyperdrought events in 2019 and 2021. This resource is intended for researchers studying climate change impacts on Mediterranean-type ecosystems, remote sensing applications in forest ecology, and drought-induced mortality mechanisms.

Provenance & quality

Multispectral imagery was acquired in January 2024 using a DJI Phantom 4 Multispectral drone across six separate flights over La Campana National Park (Chile). The drone captured five spectral bands (Blue, Green, Red, Red Edge, Near-Infrared) at a spatial resolution of approximately 6.5 cm/pixel. Raw image files were processed in Agisoft Metashape software to generate georeferenced orthomosaics for each flight. Quality assurance steps included: (1) visual inspection of orthomosaics for artefacts, seam lines, and alignment errors; and (2) consistency checks across overlapping flight lines to ensure complete coverage of the images over the ground. Final orthoimagery was exported in GeoTIFF format with per-band digital number (DN) values ranging from 0 to 65535, accompanied by an RGB visualization recommended using Band 3 (Red), Band 2 (Green), and Band 1 (Blue) with min-max stretches of 0-3000. No atmospheric correction was applied; raw DN values are provided.
